new Delhi. President Ram Nath Kovind nominated former CJI Ranjan Gogoi to the Rajya Sabha on Monday to pronounce the judgment on the Ram temple. Former CJI Gogoi had settled the Ayodhya’s Ramjanmabhoomi dispute by continuing trial. Apart from this, the Central Government was given a clean chit in the matter of the purchase of Rafale fighter aircraft. Justice Gogoi retired on 17 November. He remained a CJI for 13 months.
Earlier, former Justice Ranganath Mishra joined Congress. He then became a Member of Parliament. After this, former CJI P. Sathasivam was made the first Governor of Kerala by the Modi government.
Justice Gogoi gave 5 decisions in 10 days before retiring; 3 in favor of the government, two in opposition
First decision: In the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi dispute case, a five-member constitution bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice Ranjan Gagoi, gave a decision to build a Ram temple on the disputed land. Also ordered to give five acres of land to Muslims to build a mosque.
Second case: Justice Gogoi gave a big relief to the Modi government regarding the scandal in the Rafale plane deal. The CJI-led bench rejected all the reconsideration petitions filed in the Rafale case.
Third decision: Supreme Court had asked Rahul Gandhi to apologize for saying ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’. The petition was filed in this case by BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi.
Fourth decision: The Sabarimala temple was about the entry of women. The Supreme Court upheld the 2018 verdict in the case and referred the matter to a seven-member constitution bench.
Fifth case: Was about amendment of Finance Law-2017. A five-member bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi stayed the amendments to the law and referred the matter to a seven-member bench.
